Whether you have a specific time frame for your move or not, there are many things you can do to get ready for an eventual move.
Think of your move as happening in stages- beginning with just thinking about a move but not taking any action - to the final stage of settling into your new place.

If you are a senior and you live alone, the thought of moving and dispersing your possessions may seem overwhelming. Your family may live out of the area and may not have time to handle the tasks involved with moving. Moving Mentor® can coordinate and manage the entire moving process or a part of it, and will work with you to ease the transition into your new home.

Preparing your current home for resale takes time and effort. Moving Mentor® can assist with finding a realtor, arranging for people to take care of inside and/or outside repairs or any other facet of the resale process. If you already have a realtor, Moving Mentor® can work with you and your realtor to maximize the look of your home, so you can get the best price.
Before you move, sort your possessions and make decisions about what to keep. This will minimize the amount of unsorted stuff that will wind up in storage or that will need to be sorted later in your new home. It will also make your home look its best for potential buyers. After you move, accessibility to what is stored is critical. Consider open shelving, closed cabinets with shelves, plastic storage containers with lids and a file cabinet for archived files. Do not use cardboard moving boxes in storage areas as they are subject to damage from mildew, odors and moisture. A system of numbering and labeling possessions should be in place for best results.
It is difficult to decide what to keep and what to give away. To start with, separate your things into three categories: "definitely keep", "definitely don't need" and "undecided". You can do this physically by using bags or boxes and/or visually by using removable stickers in assorted colors to designate your categories.
We can offer assistance and advice for relocating cross-town or cross-country. We also have tips and advice for downsizing to a smaller home.
The entire moving process can be very overwhelming. We can help you stay in control when it comes to managing paperwork, organizing clutter, scheduling time and things to be accomplished, as well as any other item you need support or assistance with during the process of moving.
We provide telephone and/or internet consultations with progress reports related to moving mom or dad. We provide coaching to help support you as you help your parents. Knowing when to come and be physically present and knowing when to lend support long distance can help you to use the energy and resources you have to the best advantage.
